Love the blog! Totally agree about Egypt – the chaos and craziness of Cairo is one of the most appealing aspects of Egypt (although I love Alexandria’s fascinating backstreets too) but the persistence requests for baksheesh comprise some of my most annoying memories that I’d prefer to rid from my mind.

Wow, that’s a great overview! My friend went to Egypt, but since she’s egyptian and stayed with an overbearing uncle (they were basically locked up every night) her reviews left me with no real desire to travel there. Now I’ve got the bug again, thanks! I’m looking forward to your RTW blogging!

Agreed.
I had been far too long since I have thought about this amazing trip in any real depth.

All the long rides were pretty unbearable. And to make sure people know, that bus ride was an overnight 1o hour haul.

Very eye opening all in all and extremely fun.

Can’t wait to do it all again.

Excellent recap and lessons learned. Let’s see the highlights for me were: the Pyramids, the food (tasty on just about every account), Luxor and Karnak Temples, taxi experiences (both the crazy excited dancing driver and the driver we accidentally shorted), and of course the advice to “Close your eyes, pray to Allah, and go.” Fabulous trip all around.
