Outside the hotel those are just ice blocks. For decoration. There was a nicely sculpted ice toilet outside one of the buildings though, I wish I could add pictures to comments. And my last ditch effort to see the northern lights was the motivation to do the crazy hike. But once I failed and I was already up and outside, might as well keep on walking. I now know there is absolutely no reason to traverse the Arctic Circle.
