On October 2008, Jeff and I (Theresa) departed on a one-year trip around the world. This trip had been brewing for years, starting as a “wouldn’t it be cool” kind of thing back when we were still in college. The idea survived and grew as Jeff worked his way toward a Ph.D. in neuroscience and I taught English in Greece and then became an editor.
We began the official planning for the trip in October 2007 with the launch of this blog. For one year, we dreamed and schemed and then got down to the nitty-gritty of purchasing airline tickets, moving out of our apartment, quitting my job, and packing our bags.
Our trip consisted of five months in Central and South America, three months in Africa, and four months in SE Asia. Overall, it rocked. Sure, there were a few less-than-awesome moments, but it was an amazing adventure.
In October 2009, we returned to the United States. We were happy to be reunited with family and friends, but re-entry had its own share of difficulties. Through 2010, we readjusted to life in the U.S. and began adventures of a different sort. We also continued to travel and to make plans for future adventures.
On December 6, 2010, our blog crashed. After some gnashing of teeth and pulling of hair, we decided to take it as a sign and do a major overhaul of Lives of Wander. That’s what you see now. Lives of Wander has evolved from a RTW blog to a more broad travel blog built around our lives of wander. Our love of travel did not begin nor end with our RTW trip. Additionally, responsibility for the blog has evolved. While Jeff remains involved on the tech end (and as an occasional guest poster), Theresa has taken over full-time writing duties.
